Transparency and open government is a core value of the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District and therefore, it was a great honor to be first awarded the District Transparency Certificate of Excellence by the Special District Leadership Foundation in 2014 and continues to receive the award. The award recognizes special districts that exemplify outstanding efforts to promote transparency and good governance.

A Special District must complete eight essential governance transparency requirements to be considered for the award, including:

• Ethics training for all board members
• Conducting open and public meetings
• Filing financial transactions and compensation reports to the State Controller in a timely manner.

The District also fulfilled 15 website requirements and demonstrated regular community outreach in its governance. 

The District has received the District Transparency Certificate of Excellence three times in a row in recognition of the District's transparency in operations and governance. The award is given out by a non-profit organization supported by the California Special Districts Association to promote good governance and best practices.
